The Facial Cleansing Lowdown

Since moving to HK I have had a growing obsession for facial cleansers and YouTube. I am subscribed to a hell of a lot of beauty channels and low and behold, three out of these four cleansers have been raved about on beauty blogs and YouTube alike. I had to see what all this commotion was about.

Enter the Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel

oskia renaissance cleansing gel

This is by far one of the most luxurious and expensive items of skincare I own. Coming in at £25-£28 for 100ml depending on where you buy it. I tend to use BeautyBay if you're interested.

I have been using this cleanser since April and cannot put the thing down. It smells just like refreshers (the retro sweet) and glides on to your skin like a dream.

When applying it to the skin it feels like a gel/balm hybrid and with a few swirls of the hands it is quick to melt away make-up and even waterproof mascara - bonus!

It most definitely brightens my dull looking complexion and my skin instantly feels brighter and much smoother.

I honestly can not recommend this product enough. I have even bought a new bottle ready for when my current one runs out. If this product is anything to go by, I definitely need to try more products from Oskia.

the body shop

My second cleanser of choice is The Body Shop's Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter.

Sumptuous it is.

This has a much better price tag, coming in at £12 or $139HKD.

All you do is scoop a little out on to your hands and apply to dry skin. This immediately softens into a balm like consistency and is also quick to melt make-up, including waterproof. Once you resemble something like a panda, remove with a wet muslin cloth.

Just like the Oskia gel, this leaves your skin feeling refreshed and baby soft. A definite must buy.

I also have the Silky Cleansing Oil from the same range. This cleansing oil is for all skin types and definitely doesn't interfere with my already oily complexion.

Same as the cleansing butter, you apply this to dry skin and massage it in. This is also great at removing make-up.

I have to be honest though, this cleanser has taken a back seat since the Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel and The Body Shop Camomile Cleansing Butter entered my life.

I still highly recommend this product as it does what it says on the tin and is a bargain at £10 for 200ml.

vichy normaderm

Last but not certainly not least... I recently purchased this little number from Vichy which costs around £14 or $180HKD.

I needed something that contained salicylic acid as I have been getting a lot of milia spots (milk spots) forming on my cheeks lately. I did a cheeky (no pun intended) search on google and people recommended using a cleanser containing this type of acid as it is supposed to help remove impurities and excess sebum, yes I know that's disgusting, but we are all human here!

I have only been using this for a week or so but I have already noticed that the size of the milk spots appear to have reduced. My skin is obviously not used to this type of cleanser so I have broken out in a few areas on my face, but nothing too ghastly.

The cleanser tends to bring everything to the surface of the skin once I have wiped off the product with a warm muslin cloth. Is it me, or does anyone else find that satisfying?!

I haven't noticed my pores tightening as of yet, but I suspect that from continued use it might start to improve the appearance of my crater-like pores.

I purchased this here in Hong Kong and can not seem to find a link for it in the UK. Sorry guys.

What cleansers do you use?

Warning: Drool worthy content. The Butchers Club Burger.

The Butchers Club Burger

The Butchers Club Burger

Oh my, I am droooooling whilst typing up this post.

I have been to The Butchers Club Burger a few times now and I can honestly say, for a burger, this does NOT disappoint.

The menu consists of one burger and duck fat fries (there is a secret menu, but I will get onto that in a moment).

Lets get onto the burger shall we?

The Butchers Club Burger

A juicy, bacon topped, cheesy sensation with a tangy caramelized onion burger-y sauce to boot.

The Butchers Club Burger

Perfectly accompanied by their signature Duck Fat Fries. Now all I can say about these bad boys is wow! They are crispy, flavoursome and great dipped in some some yellow mustard.

The Butchers Club Burger

We heard through a few people that they also have a secret menu...

...but it wouldn't be a secret if I told you about it, would it?!

Just ask for the secret menu when you get there. Just don't get there after 9pm as it didn't seem to be available. Although they offered Jack a special double burger to make up for it.

The Butchers Club Burger

Its such a cool little joint. However, embrace yourself because its always busy. Sign of a bloody good burger right?!

If you like to be naughty every now and again, I urge you to go try this place out. You will not be disappointed.

Its on 2 Landale St, Wan Chai.

When the Wind Blows

h&m skirt

T-Shirt - H&M / Skirt - H&M / Necklace - Accessorize (Old) / Boots - New Look (Old) / Bag - Michael Kors

I always seem to pick the windy days to take some outfit shots and it always ends up with my hair trying to suffocate my face, although I am certainly not complaining - check out those frown marks!

I found myself in H&M the other day on the lookout for some plain t-shirts. As usual, I left with more than I went in for. One of the items was this beaut of a skirt. A woven type short skirt with a faux leather waistband, of which is not on the pictures as I didn't want to get my belly out. It was the daytime so I didn't want to overly dress up so I teamed it with a simple black t-shirt, also from H&M.

Its starting to cool down now here in HK, so I donned the old ankle boots. I purchased these last winter from New Look back in the UK. I also cannot leave the apartment without my trusty Michael Kors bag that I got from Macy's on a trip to Vegas last year.

I love a good old simple outfit, especially when it involves my fave colours black and blue, which matches my bruised legs perfectly.

Hong Kong's Secret Ingredient

We had heard of Secret Ingredient through many a grapevine and following some good foodie reviews, we decided that we must try it.

Now the idea of someone preparing your evening meal, placing each ingredient into its own lettered  container and delivering it straight to your door is by any means a good blooming idea!

So last week we ordered the 'SI's Salmon better burger with quinoa salad'. I followed the simple steps as stated on the recipe card (you can either download this from the confirmation email or use the card provided within the bag) and 20 minutes later it was ready and I was definitely raring to eat it! The burger accompanied with the crispy lettuce and crunchy red onions slathered in a tasty sauce infused with lemon and fresh herbs was to die for. The quinoa salad was also a great addition with a very slight citrusy taste, from being cooked in a mixture of water and orange juice to the crunchiness of the pine nuts and cucumber. Mmmmmm!

Its just so easy as most of their meals only require the use of pans and not an oven, which if you live in Hong Kong is frickin' ideal.

I can honestly say that it is most definitely worth the money when it comes to the end of a hard working day (for Jack) and for the simple ease of cooking (for me!). Its a great little treat for us every once in a while and I can most certainly say we will be ordering again.

Ok, I am now starving after writing this post. So until next time...

Just an amateur in a Topshop getup

Topshop

Top (Topshop) Jeans (Topshop) Shoes (Nine West -similar here) Bag (Old from Zara) Necklace (Accessorize - similar here)

Ok, so please forgive me for these terrible pictures (it is my first outfit post after all). I just wanted to show you these lovely purchases I gathered from Topshop a couple of weeks back.

Hopefully next time the shots will be a little bit more presentable.

Feeling Autumnal

autumnal

Autumn is by far my favourite season of the year. The crisp cold air on a sunny day, the beautifully coloured leaves and relaxing in a little country pub with a roaring fire. That's my idea of autumn.

Being able to wrap myself up in a chunky over-sized scarf teamed with a big comfy jumper is my idea of bliss. I can only dream of this as I am currently sat with the air con and its 28 degrees outside!

A girl can dream eh?!

revlon nail varnish

So the other day I reached for this little delight from Revlon, in the shade 406 'Hold 'Em'. A beautiful deep plummy purple, that's got autumn written all over it. Within 30 seconds of getting home it was already on my nails. The brush is wide which makes for an easy application and two coats is perfect.

I also picked up a stunning brighter purple from the same collection, in the shade 410 'Up The Ante', also great for this time of year.

As for the lips, I applied a mixture of the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in Frambourjois (which by the way, is by far one of the best liquid lipsticks I have tried!) and the Rimmel Kate Matte lipstick in 107.

Big up the Autumn time...

There is no set path. Just follow your heart....

How often do people really follow their heart? I would say very few.

If it wasn't for the important people in my life telling me to take the plunge, I would probably still be daydreaming now and wondering what if?

Now I am by no means an expert when it comes to make-up and skincare and the same for throwing a few pieces of clothing together to represent my 'own' style but the one thing I do have for these things is a passion. A kind of passion that gets me excited when it comes to buying a new pair of jeans or purchasing the next best thing in in the wonderful and varied world of cosmetics.

You are likely to find a bit of everything on here, whether it be a blow by blow account of every mouthful of food I take at a restaurant or showing you my latest beauty and clothing purchases. Oh and I have a few travel plans coming up, so watch this space for some holiday inspired posts.

Happy reading!
